The "Outside the Square" project received seed funding from the  FRRR Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal.
As part of this project   canvases were supplied to local youth to engage in art creation. Those entries were on display at the Art Showcase & Exhibition on 15&16th April 2023. There were close to 300 entries. Two of our youth artists were selected from the peoples choice to be part of the 2024 Creative Otways Calendar sponsored by GavArt. Winners from each youth section received gift certificates for art supplies to help them continue on their creative journey.

It also provided the opportunity of over  20weeks(6 months) of  youth art group mentoring session with artists  Fingle Sin, Frankie Forged, Libertas between  October  2022 and April 2023
The Outside the Square project   aims to be able to offer more opportunities for Youth Engagement through the arts.
We wish to support our emerging youth artists by encouraging them to participate in workshops with local artists.

COLAC OTWAY ARTS TRAIL AUGMENTED GRAFFITI PROJECT with Liberatas

This summer at the Colac Makers Space we ran a six-week digital art workshop in which students created their own animated, augmented graffiti pieces. Drawing on concepts regarding self-identity and how it is intrinsically related to our place and position in time and space. Students were encouraged to create their own Graffiti ‘tags’ in such a way that they felt represented them and the place in which they live. They were then taught some basic animation principles and mentored through the animation process so they could bring their still image to life. Using a free Augmented reality app, Halo AR. Students were able to turn their still graffiti pieces into moving animations when their image is scanned using their smart phone. It’s a new, digital form of street art. To view the works in their animated state you can download the Halo AR app for free or you can check out the links below!
