"Gav! I didn't know you were an artist...?" (And neither did I) I started to tinker around the edges of painting in 2005, as an extension to some drawings I had done, not believing it would start to consume my time as much as it has. But it has only been since 2011, after entering several paintings in some local art shows, that I have started to accept that this is something that i am relatively accomplished at and after recent accolades from friends and family I have decided to put more time into this art form. I have no formal training or had any lessons, I have interpreted only what is in my mind and adapted my style to suit. My early works predominantly feature water. I have a love/hate relationship with water...as a result of many wonderful youthful years spent on family holidays near or on the water, and my love of fishing... but also seeing its unpredicted nature and its ability to take the life of a loved one. Sport is also a wonderful topic to be able to interpret. Sport exudes emotion that is not like any activity, and to be able to capture a particular moment is truly satisfying. It is only recently that I have progressed to portraits. My 'style' is not photographic but more interpretive. I attempt to accommodate many aspects of a person’s life within the painting. There is a joy like no other upon the reaction received when presenting a completed portrait. And it is because of this that I will continue to develop my styles and expand my subjects. "The major justification of a life is the happiness it brings to other lives" Unknown who said that...but I think there is something in that for all of us. I do hope you enjoy my paintings and artwork. If you would like to contact me regarding any of my works or any inquiries regarding commissions or prints, please click on the contact GAVart link on my website gavart.com.au
